Hi guys,
I hope this hasn't been asked before , but I was wondering if anyone here knows what was actually salvaged from the Crystal Palace , as apparently stuff did end up at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London . And i also believe ( after reading the 1930 ( i will loosely call it guide ) book , the statue of Bodicae was also on display at the palace for some time , though of course it may have been a cast
Many Thanks In Advance
Chelsey
Crystal Palace at the V & A
Hi Chelsey
I have had a quick look at the V&A's image catalogue and found these three objects that were diplayed at the Crystal Palace and are now in the museum.
All the other images are of CP related memorabilia and printed material.
Plaster cast of the Effigy of King John in Purbeck marble, ca. 1240, from Worcester Cathedral, cast ca. 1852-4
Length 101 cm
Given by the Trustees of Crystal Palace in 1938
Plaster cast of the tympanum, in stone, from the church at Shobdon (Herefordshire). Shobdon Church was demolished in the 18th century and its two doorways with their tympana and the chancel arch were re-erected in Shobdon Park as a folly and are now decayed from weathering. The plaster cast, made in the 1850s for the Crystal Palace, was slightly worked-up by the caster.
Man`s Court Shoe; black patent leather;
German;
Shown at Great Exhibition of 1851..
I hope this is helpful.
