nothing worse than when the heaters are on full blast.
Oh God, you're not one of those who opens the window even in a Winter where some days are colder than the Arctic are you?? Someone did it the other day - it just makes me want to scream and/or give the person a big slap!! :x

Often it gets so hot on the trains, even in winter, so it's nice to get a bit of fresh air. Also we're all dressed for the cold weather outside so should be warm enough. Opening those tiny windows doesn't actually make it cold with the heaters blasting. Also it is much more pleasant for people having to stand up - less likely to have people fainting all over the place!
Would be cold without the heaters though.
No need to slap/scream (except for other reasons!) just ask to close the window maybe?
Okay, can I just say that often there will be a window open a little way down the train, the person sitting underneath it gets no air whatsoever, it's poor souls further down the train, including ME, who is getting the blast of cold air! And having shivered geting to the station, and then on the platform, personally I'm craving some warmth, not more cold air!! I don't want to be cold once I get on the train - and the warm clothes don't matter, I've already GOT cold on my journey to the station and waiting for the train. When I get on and some insensitive person has the window open (and it's like 0 degrees outside) down the train and I shiver on my way to work, I'm afraid I do want to hit someone! I can't ask that person who's nowhere near me to close the window. And it's not really done to ask someone to close it when they just that second opened it!

I just want a comfy journey - and tbh I don't think the trains at this time of year are ever cold enough to warrant open windows! I bet nobody will be doing it come Summer!? It's just silly!

Looks like you need to wear more clothes and I need to wear less!

Also, if opening the window is 'insensitive' as you say - by closing the windows are you not just thinking of your own needs like the window-opener?

Anyway this discussion is going nowhere - you can't please everyone. But yes I agree that when the heaters are not on it is cold on the train.

I once watched a woman shut her hand in the door, showering three passengers with blood before shrieking loudly and running off to the guard's van trying not to drip on anyone else.....

I also bruised my thumbs trying to open the damn things on innumerable occasions, as well as once catching my trainer in a slam-door whilst closing it behind me. Said trainer fell off my foot onto the track.

And they were more likely to crumple in a crash as well, due to having multiple doors instead of just a pair at each end of each carriage.

I don't miss the fooken things one little bit. :D

My old boss once famously got out the wrong side and fell on the tracks!

That's what I'm saying though, I personally couldn't just lean over someone and close the window, so no I'm not being 'insensitive'! When most people are visibly shivering, opening the window IS a bit insensitive in my opinion.

Anyway, yes it's going nowhere and the 7.29am was freezing again this morning so it's clearly not gonna change!? :(
