... I'm really sorry if this is a dumb question, but where is it?? Where do you pick up the Metro paper on Sydenham Station?? I guess I've not had time to look around very much most mornings, but I've been using the station a month or so now and haven't come across it yet.
It's a nice easy way to keep up with what's going on in the world, and just about keeps my attention - sorry I'm not an FT or Gaurdian reader, I have an attention span of about five minutes for current affairs, and Metro suits me nicely!
I understand where you're coming from nickerbockers, but the "journalism" is truly dire.. however, I have noticed that Sydenham doesn't get it yet Forest Hill station does - has that always been the case?
OK Nickerbockers , understand you do not want to wade through a couple of pages about The Undemocratic Republic of The Congo , but these freebees are absolute rubbish. Sydenham should count itself lucky it does not have them.
So Sydenham Station doesn't get them at all. I wonder if they're going to change that as everywhere else seems to, I see people walking around with them all over the place!
I think as long as they're put in a recycling bin after they're finished with, they're not doing the environment much harm - I hope Sydenham catches up soon and starts getting Metro!
We had them in at Lower Sydenham station for a couple of months over the summer and then they disappeared- I think the container for them kept getting vandalised.
Penge East always have them, not sure why Sydenham don't! You could try emailing TFL or something and requesting them.

Unfortunately that's not the case - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, in that order! The only way these free papers would not be harming the environment is by not existing at all. The energy wasted on production, distribution and disposal, not to mention the minimal quantity that ever reach the recycling plant, must be phenonemal. The amount of waste they generate is immoral in this day and age. Not to mention the dumbing down of the content.
Anyway... sorry... those things are a real pet hate of mine. Rant over.
Environmentalism aside, the blatant bias and sensationalizing in the various free papers actually makes me angry when I read them. This made sense when I discovered that the Metro and the London Lite are subsidiaries of the Daily Mail, and thelondonpaper (yes, that's the official name ) is a subsidiary of The Sun.
So basically, they're ways for these papers to push to a market that may not be purchasing their products in shops.
I actually picked the Metro up this morning, following yesterday's conversation. On page 4 I spotted a photo labelled as David Ross (he's been on the news the last few days for being very naughty with shares) which clearly wasn't him... how hard can it be to use a photo of the right person in a story?
Yes I agree. I believe a good cup of cofee worth having a bad cup to be avoided at all costs. There is a good kiosk outside FH station. Perhaps something like that. Cannot see the paperman making Latte's
The tea on Sydenham station is good, I love my cup of tea on the station on these cold mornings - you'll spot me now, green hat/scarf and about the only one with a hot drink (for some reason) standing at the rear of the platform.
Re the Metro, have started watching morning TV which has loads of news bulletins so I don't really miss it now. I even get a weather report into the bargin!
Btw: The Metro was on the 75 BUS yesterday???? I get it up to Sydenham station and there is was. I picked one up, but found I never even read any of it.
