A Walk through the Nave of the Crystal Palace 1854
Re: A Walk through the Nave of the Crystal Palace 1854
Thanks very much, Terry. I'll try and locate the Art Union journal and see if these appear there.

There's no complete record of just how many images were taken for the Crystal Palace Art Union in 1859, just one of many of these 'Art Unions' at this period. I've combed the Art journal for references to the Sydenham Crystal Palace.
They only issued photographs in the first year, after that is was just pieces of Parian Porcelain.

Hi again. I've come across one published item: Photographs Executed Expressly for the Crystal Palace Art-Union. This contains nine images, but from what I can glean at this point, these two images are not among them.
Other than Delamotte, I am curious to know who some other candidates might be? Any suggestions?

A Walk through the Nave of the Crystal Palace 1854
Hi - this is a wonderful site, with a great wealth of detail, many congratulations. The closest thing to the CP, elswehere, was the New Museum, Berlin, reopened 2009, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neues_Museum, well worth a visit. I'm interested in anthropology/ethnographic/ethnological displays, as organised R.G.Latham, and wondered if there were any additional images of those displays - of island Asia and New Guinea, and the Americas and the Inuit. Thanks, Jayking

Re: A Walk through the Nave of the Crystal Palace 1854
in my humble opinion back it in the days the art of culture was ages ahead of us rather than behind as a point in time... it took me a while to see the full post (my web connection is really slow) but it was worth it.

it seems that he hasn't been on the Forum recently. I've sent him a PM, but does anyone know him personally, to get in contact with?

The Palace Is Lighted by the GULCHER LIGHT & POWER COMPANY - on the low tension system
1892 The electrification of the Crystal Palace at Sydenham, providing a permanent lighting system, was still operating well, many years after installation.
