Sydenham Assembly - 11am Saturday 11 March at Sydenham Centre

Post by Chris Best »

Giving a shout out for the Sydenham Assembly starting at 11am at the Sydenham Centre tomorrow - Saturday 11 March.

Top of the agenda is the consultation on the Sustainable Streets Programme. The proposals aim to reduce air pollution, improve road safety and encourage more people to walk, cycle or use public transport. The actions are to plant more street trees, provide more secure cycle storage hangars, install electric vehicle charging points and parking bays for car clubs. To improve road safety, double yellow lines are proposed for all road junctions.

The funding for these actions is from the income from controlled parking for residents and businesses. On average, the cost of an annual residential parking permit is around £12 a month or £3 a week. The cost of a parking permit is calculated based on the emissions of a vehicle. A book of 10 one-hour visitor permits is included in the cost of an annual residential parking permit and costs £16 (£1.60 per hour) or a weekly permit is £25.60. Blue Badge holders and carers can apply for a free permit. Please see more information on the Frequently Asked Questions page www.lewisham.gov.uk/articles/news

We will have the Sydenham Safer Neighbourhood Team joining us to talk about local police matters, community updates and there will be time for questions and answers with your local councillors.

Thanks Chris for the reminder. The implementation of the borough wide controlled parking system will be of interest. The link you posted to the Frequently Asked Questions doesn't seem to go anywhere - could you update it please?

Sorry about the link - here is the frequently asked questions page -
https://lewisham.gov.uk/articles/news/s ... -programme

Of course I know there are other questions such as the ensuring we keep the free 40 minute short stay bays in the high street and the free 2 hours parking in Girton Road car park to support our local independent businesses.

I have also been asked if we can have a 2 hour scheme to stop commuter parking and whether the permits will apply borough wide rather than in a smaller zone - I am sure there will be more questions this morning so we will seek to get updates and please email me other queries and hope to see some of you this morning.
