Reference DC/19/113583 154-158 Sydenham Road. Does anyone know what the status of these homes will be? Will they be for sale on the open market or are they specifically for housing association/social housing/help to buy?

I thought this application had already been submitted and approved long ago. Whatever happens, that site is in desperate need of work.

I am disappointed by the negative and unbalanced tone of the Sydenham Society email bulletin today re the proposed new council homes at Mais House. "Visible from miles away"; "change the character of Sydenham Hill forever"; "immense pressure on local infrastructure"; "residents will spill over into sydenham's surgeries". Everyone's homes had an impact on our surroundings when they were built, we all have an impact on local services, and many of those who live there will likely be working in our health service. "We say no because we got here first" is not a principled argument.

Something (at last) seems to be happening here. Trucks etc going in this morning and a tree at the entrance being felled.

I don't agree, if an area will be made much more unpleasant by the building of an unsuitably large block, then I agree (on this occasion) with the SydSoc.
The design could probably be re-configured so it isn't so tall, or if that isn't possible, then fewer flats should be built there. There are some sites where tall buildings are inappropriate.

But that is just one point of view. Individuals are perfectly entitled to hold it but yet again Syd Soc are not taking a balanced approach to questions where the community hold a wide range of different views.
