Shooting in the high street this afternoon

Post by El Cid »

Loads of police cars in the high street, which has been taped off between Newlands Park and the railway bridge, and helicopter flying above. Apparently there's been a shooting near Lloyds bank.

According to a post on Twitter, there was a car chase, which ended outside Lloyds bank at 4 pm, and a shot was fired. I can't verify this. Has anyone spoken to anyone who witnessed the incident?

Just come across this statement from the Met:

Police were called at 15:45hrs on Sunday, 8 September to reports of suspicious activity in Sydenham Road, SE29.

Officers attended. Shots were subsequently heard and firearms officers were also called to the scene along with the London Ambulance Service.

A man in his 20s was found with gunshot wounds. He died at the scene at 15:50hrs.

Police remain at the scene – there have been no arrests at this stage and enquiries in to the circumstances continue.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police 101 quoting CAD 4860/8Sept or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. They do not ask your name and cannot trace your call or I.P address.

Think there is still a lot of unknowns/conjecture around what happened with quite varied bits of info but it does appear the person shot thrmself - (eg: I have read that a shot ricocheted off a car and back but another report says people left the car and the person used the butt of the gun to try and damage the car and it went off). In any case very sad set of events.
