Gun incident Lower Sydenham
Gun incident Lower Sydenham
Just walked past Addington Gove 7.50am (Wednesday) morning, had 3 police cars & the street closed off. I spoke to someone who was a police witness, they saw/heard a shot being fired & two men. Hazel Grove was also blocked off. An ambulance was approaching the scene. This is just what I saw & Im not speculating what was going on.
Anyone have any more news on this?

A lot of the time the culprits are 'caught' but its very hard to get to court (never mind get a conviction) when the victims say they couldn't possibly say who shot at them, have no idea why they were shot at (yeah, right)and have no recollection of what the car or the occupants looked like. The week after the roles might well be reversed and the shooters may well be the victims, and yet again, they have no idea who would possibly want to kill them or why........ its like the wild flippin' west !!
I don't find it worrying from a personal stance - I have no involvement with such people and would guess I am very unlikely to be a target of gun crime unless I get caught in crossfire which sometimes does happen but not often - like in the case of the young lad outside the supermarket the other week where two rival gangs decided to have a shoot out in broad daylight.
I actually worry more about my house catching fire whilst I'm on holiday or being burgled, but not much.

I saw from my window a couple of black boys running from a car full of druggies that the council have kindly moved on to the estate before the shots were fired.
These druggies have caused nothing but trouble since they moved in and as a result sydenham is now crawling with smack heads that love to hang around the estate and have even started breaking into cars and even peoples homes in the middle of the day to feed their drug habbit!

Tink,
The rule here on crime is that you should, for obvious reasons, only report what you have seen at first hand or quote a verifiable source. Otherwise stuff that is rumoured but untrue gets published alongside stuff we need to worry about.
So can you re-check your article and add sources or remove as appropriate. If you don't want to publish the source then you can always PM me to explain.
Have you reported your suppositions about the nature of people or transactions to the police?
Thanks,
Admin

And if they were white, would Tink have said "..a couple of white boys.."? I very much doubt it.ALIB wrote:It is part of the description of witnesses/participants/victims of an incident. If I can adjudicate here. Giving a description to the police of black skin, red hair, peg leg & waving a welsh flag would be very relevant since the objective is identification of individuals.
The discussion here is not about that. Hence it is not relevant and its inclusion is not helpful (like causing the sub-discussion).

You are making a racist issue of something that clearly isn't one. If they were white i would of stated that but they wasnt. It wasnt as if i was saying anything bad about them...in fact it was the other way round as it is the WHITE drug addicts who are the cause of concern in the postnatbeuk wrote:I repeat what I said - if they were white boys would you have specified the colour of their skin? It's a completely irrelevant "fact" in the context of your post.
I was not accusing you of racism, but since you mention it, I don't think it "clearly" isn't a racist issue. Your original post didn't say that the "druggies" were white did it? Yet you chose to specify that the boys were black. I was simply questioning why that was relevant.
As Admin said, this is not a police report, you are not intending to provide a full description, it's not even clear from the post why you think the boys were running, so you simply did not need to mention the colour of their skin. I think you should be able to understand why someone reading your post could take offence (and just in case you are wondering, I am white and of white British descent).
But as Admin says, this is not the point of the discussion. I've said my piece.
