2017 Decent Christmas Decorations in High Street?

Why is it that everywhere else they have nice lights on the lamp posts with no problems of bulbs blowing in the heavy rain but in Sydenham it is a big enough concern to concede with these boring lights?

Who's idea is it for BLUE lights?? The most un-Christmassy colour EVER. Why not traditional green, red and gold? Silver is boring.

Even Shortlands which is a junction and has no high street to speak of, blows Sydenham away every Year.
It’s just one excuse after another,
Frankly if we had more commercially strong businesses in Sydenham AS WELL AS THE INDEPENDENTS, there would probably be a stronger traders group who would be willing to invest.
Imagine the Cobbs corner square with the new pub, Nandos, a Pizza Express instead of KFH, whatever your preference to create a hub for eating and entertainment that brings people in, all decorated for Christmas with a big tree.

I know exactly who all the hard working traders are who put the extra mile in for the local community events in Penge and they are all independent.

I lived in Sydenham from 2012 until July 2016 and now live in Chislehurst. I loved my time in Sydenham and I continue to own property in the area (let to a family member) which is why I continue to peruse these boards.

Chislehurst has a strong, committed, business group which contain both independent and regional/national traders and businesses. The group was initially setup with the prime purpose to find funding for Christmas lights years ago, and has since grown into much much more.

From the outside, I feel that Sydenham businesses let down the area by not committing to such associations. If such an association does exist, it’s not working.

These boards seem quick to point to the local authorities, but local businesses have a huge responsibility too. It’s the difference between an average high street, and a great high street.

Do my eyes deceive me or have the same dodgy blue lights been wrapped around Sydenham's lamp posts against this year. 'Oh deep joy' do I hear a collective cry from long suffering Sydenham residents? BLUE? I cannot think of a more unseasonal colour! Must have bought a job lot from a boot fair, after all, it's only Sydenham so who cares? (tongue-in-cheek). Please I'd rather no decorations at all than that motley lot

Once again, this is where strong traders representation can make a difference.

But nothing will happen unless local people act. Councils don't want to do anything different, they are underfunded, understaffed, have political pressure within and loads of red tape. This differs from council to council, Lewisham suffers from it quite badly sadly.

If you want it to happen, set up crowdfunding, organise, get a traders group, pressure your councillors and MP and the Mayor. it could take years. Do it for the long haul. Don't take 'it can't be done' as an answer, which you will be told. It's nonsense.
