Hi,
I'm tracing my ancesters who I know lived in Cambridge Rd, Croyden rd and Seymore Villas over the period 1880-1901. Does anyone know if there are any street maps available online for this period. If not online where would I go to? Maybe someone might of heard of the family. Their suranme was Hart. Fritz Hart 1874-1949 became quite famous as a conductor and composer especially in Melbourne Australia and there have been a number of pictures painted of him. I know that his mother was a piano teacher and I think their house had a separate Oratory building with a castle type turret affair at the top - this might have been the house in Croden Rd. Any ideas would be very grateful. Thanks

Hi. I know that the main Bromley library has an archive of old maps which cover a fair surrounding area and I'd imagine (but don't know) that the main Lewisham library might have a similar archive as well.
I'm not sure how these would help you trace your relatives, although the librarians might be able to offer info about what might be available from parish church records and where those might be found - they are very knowledgeable in the reference section. Incidentally, the Bromley library also has a fair number of reference books re history of the area (as well Lewisham might), so if you can't find anything online, it might be worth giving those a ring to ask what they have that might help you.

Katie,
This link to an earlier thread on this forum may be of some interest to you.

There was an Ordnance Survey map of this area in 1894 it may be worth searching the web for an online copy. Reproductions can be bought fairly cheaply.
Also the forum that covers the Norwood area may be worth posting on.

I bought a copy of one of the 1894 maps from Kirkdale bookshop in Sydenham recently. They can also be obtained online at:
