Well we will have to wait and see if there is a name change for The Greyhound![/quote]

I really hope not! Apart from the fact its been called the Greyhound for over 20 0years (except for when it was called the something and Firkin for a while), there are the tow greyhound figures by the front door and the massive greyhound art work on the back wall.

GBP 7.00 for Scotch Oeuf . Surely not in Sydenham . Probably buy them from Lidl.

Certainly a change of clientelle from when last a Pub.

I very much doubt he would want to change the name Simon! Undoubtably if he tried to I am sure there would be a further campaign to "Save The Greyhound [name]" :D

I don't think there's any talk about changing the Greyhound's name. My comment was just about The Guinea Butt not being as historic a name as I thought.

And I do think the Scotch eggs at the Guinea seem a bit special. A real Scotch egg is a different beast altogether from a cold dead thing from Lidl.

Beninahurry wrote:The owner has told Sydenham Society that his application for the fit-out of the pub has now been accepted by Lewisham Council. He hopes to be on site in early to mid September starting work on the refurbishment. With any luck, by Christmas, this splendid new venture should be up and running and our campaign will reach the happy conclusion. We will be posting more news on the Sydenham Society website soon along with other topic updates. Cheers :)
The Rebuild the Greyhound Twitter feed reports that work started on site this morning and build time will be approximately 12 weeks - https://twitter.com/TheGreyhoundSyd/sta ... 0734628864

An email bulletin from the Sydenham Society this morning carried the same news.

Great news!

Ready for Christmas? I guess they will need a period for training/stocking etc. Maybe we should be running a sweepstake on the opening date. The prize - a beer. Worth a lot these days!

My bid is Feb 19, 2018.

The owner of The Greyhound started on internal works today which are expected to take 11-12 weeks to complete the fit out. Ready in time for a Christmas tipple hopefully!!

Are they building the conservatory? I think it would be a great addition if they did. Still look forward to a good pint in my new local.

The whole point was to restore this lovely old building which in my recollection did not include a conservatory.

If adding to the restored building improves the image and aesthetics of Sydenham, I am all for it.
