If the Greyhound is dog friendly, I'll be there like a shot. All the way from Cardiff!

Interesting that he makes a comparison with a Fullers pub and not one of his own. "Dog friendly" is encouraging. Just as long as they serve their beer in manly pint glasses and not those horrible "schooners"!

This is great news. The Lord Northbrook looks like a great pub.

I hope it does good food, interesting beers, great service and is family friendly with nice little snug areas. I'm sure it will go well if they follow that formula and offer something to compliment others businesses in the area.

It does look great, food looks a bit pricey though :)

On the upside, if it's a pricey bar it may deter the rowdier crowds :)

Awww. You spoil sport. After waiting this long, I'm fully expecting us rowdy crowd to be dancing on the tables...

It does look promising :)

So is this expected to be another cookie cutter Fullers tied pub? If so that's rather disappointing

No. The article merely refers to the The Lord Northbrook by way of giving 'a flavour of the style of operation'. It does not say that the Greyhound will be a Fullers tied pub.

Thanks for introducing me to the figurative use of 'cookie cutter', which I haven't come across before.

Any news? Something please before I retire. This is unforgivable.

The new owner is perfectly entitled to fit out and open the pub at whatever pace he sees fit. It might be disappointing that work hasn't started yet, but it certainly isn't 'unforgivable'.

Can I point you in the direction of my recent post in this thread, where I quoted a Sydenham Society article which explained that the owner hopes to start work in July - the month after this one, at least according to my calendar.

Would I be correct in saying the new owner would be within their rights to keep the pub empty and unopened in perpetuity then?
Well yes, but someone who owns a number of successful pubs (as we know the new owner does) is hardly likely to buy a pub and leave it empty.

I do understand people's frustrations, but please be realistic:it takes time to get things sorted.

I am optimistic that an excellent pub will open later this year. Whilst I no longer live in Sydenham, I look forward to popping in and enjoying a drink alongside others from this forum.

We were speaking with an estate agent at the weekend who has said that the new owner is waiting for planning permission approval for a garden area along two sides of the pub.

Once this has been granted the refurb will start and they are aiming for a September opening.

I forgot to add that the new owner is apparently responsible for an "award winning" pub in Crystal Palace...

What was, for a short while, looking great is now beginning to look neglected. Herris fencing is falling down, weeds are growing with abundance, pigeons are causing a mess and it is now subject to graffiti.

It would be nice if those who know the new owner might contact them to encourage some real positive action to address these problems and start to look after the building.

Broken windows theory and all that ...

What the heck is happening? Perhaps the Sydenham Society, who were very active in the campaign, could help get something done. I agree the place is beginning to look very tatty - such a shame!
