Dodgy drinking water in Dartmouth Road

Post by ALIB »

Hi everyone,
I live in Dartmouth Road and have noticed over the past couple of months I have very cloudy/milky water from my taps. Thames Water have conducted analysis and they say the water is safe to drink. Further tests have revealed the cloudiness is caused by compressed air that has got into the system.
Thames Water are doing further works in order to clear the system as they think it is a problem that is fairly widespread in the area.

I am assured that although the taste and colour isn't great, Thames Water are working on a solution.

In the meantime, if you would like to take issue with them, the following contacts have produced quick and effective responses.

Thames Water Utilities Ltd
PO Box 436
Swindon
SN38 1TU

Drinking Water Inspectorate
Room M03,
55 Whitehall,
London,
SW1A 2EY

Else contact them via the email contact on their respective websites.

Thames Water

Post by William on the Hill »

Here in Kirkdale we have been experiencing this for months now. The cloudiness does clear after a few minutes but I think the water has an unpleasant taste.

Talking of water: Over the Easter weekend for three days we had a gang of blokes dig a trench from one end of Fransfield Grove to the other. Come the Tuesday, a normal working day and not a workman to be seen. It has been like that pretty much every day since. The trench is still open with not a lot of evidence to indicate much work being done in between times. I am told that it is work for Thames Water and that it involves installing water meters to each household.

Anyone else heard this rumour? Can confirm it? And when were we consulted?

There is no information that Thames Water are installing meters (to households) as part of the ring main replacement.

The fact that workers (assume Mc Nicholas) appear only at weekends maybe something to do with overtime rates. Perhaps they are related to traffic wardens...

As far as individual households cloudiness and taste issues with their water, i urge you to write and email to get the problem sorted. Please quote that the water does not conform to the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2000, in terms of taste and clarity. You will get a prompt and effective response if you cc in the Drinking Water inspectorate (DWI)

Please (anyone) PM me with updates of McNicholas/Thames Water complaints, or post the on the forum. I can then compile a dossier under the Syd Soc banner to protest. A co-ordinated approach is likely to produce far more effective results than individual ones, though please complain on your own behalf in the first instance.

:) Hiya, we are just getting over the upheaval of the road works for Thames Water, and the water was cloudy but has now returned to normal.
I have spoken to someone who doe's major plumbing works as a living, and he assures me that it is just air bubbles and that why if you leave it to stand for a while they disappear.also i must say that i havent really noticed the quality change that you seem to have.

Hi Annie,
The quality change in our water was also attributable to air in the system. Thame Water will not be aware of any specific problems with your supply unless you inform them. It takes them a couple of minutes to bleed the air out of your supply, and they don't even need access to your house.

To 'us', the water was cloudy and tasted not very nice. Both of these were be attributable to the harmless air bubbles.....but does not get by the fact that water with these air bubbles still does not conform to the supply standards. If i'm paying for this service, then I want it to be right.

(glad you're OK and not grown 2 heads as a result)

How does one get into a vending machine and why is drinking tap water in there safer?

Perhaps The Bird in The Hand have put their beer in the water supply.

ooooh...

Does it come fully stocked Emmanuel82? How did you know it was my lifetime's ambition to become an honorary American, in size if nothing else.

I think if I lock the doors and demolish that 47 selection within a week or two I'll be there in no time!

Musn't forget to book the crane to get me out of bed.

This might be the worst example of spam by word-association EVER? ALIB complains about his domestic water supply in Sydenham, England and we get spammed by Emmanuel82 from Iowa trying to flog us a commerical vending machine...with pototo chips and all!

Will it fit through my letterbox Emmanuel82? Any discount if we buy more than 10?

Emmanuel82 mistook a passing Dalek for water vending machine and has, not so sadly, been exterminated.

I supposed we should be impressed that Sydenham is seen a significant demographic by these Memphis folk. Now if it had been jukeboxes ...
