From the combined Friends of Dacres Wood and Mayow Park birdwalk yesterday,
and then as I was enjoying a beer with walk leader Paul later.
They were flying around in coitus, which looked really weird. Glad for them that they found a clematis leaf to settle on. They are bee flies, which I'd never seen flies before I moved to Sydenham. They have adapted to look like bumble bees, and in fact practice what is called "brood parasitism" - same as cuckoos - but in this case the victims are bumble bees.
