The Alexandra is open - at last

Post by mikej »

Most of you will know where this is - opposite the Alexandra nurseries, where Penge Lane and Parish Lane meet,

Popped in at the weekend, seems good. Nice vibe. They serve draft beers in 2/3 pint glasses. Nice big windows. It's not finished - the kitchen is a work in progress, but its larger than I expected inside.

A nice opening for the area, even if its on the Penge side.

Have been in as well and agree its a nice place.

Big choice of different drinks. I think it will be a popular place to go.

It's a terrific place and beer drinkers can celebrate that they have already had draught options from Southey, London Beer Factory, Gipsy Hill and Adnams as well as an amazing bottle choice of some of London's finest independent craft producers.

Oh and while you're in Penge, checking out the Alex, make sure you also visit the Southey taproom at the brewery (opened 5-10, Fridays and Saturdays). It's run by the former head brewer of Late Knights from the same building but with new kit and a whole range of better beers.

Good buzz in there on Friday.
Friendly staff too.

Will need to keep that smokers door closed in winter though.

Really like the simple decor and the living wall.

Will definitely be popping back - when does the kitchen open?

They said two weeks for the kitchen opening when we asked this Sunday.

Was at Alexandra for lunch yesterday. Excellent food, tapas style, big plates and small plates.
Very reasonable prices; friendly, attentive and efficient service. Menu is on their Facebook page.

Good selection of cocktails; reasonably priced house and other varieties of gin and wine, several types of wine by the glass, and of course other spirits and beer.

Unpretentious and welcoming; a very pleasant place to be.

Some of its competitors are going to have to up their game.
