The news that the government has ordered a public inquiry on the recent proposed development at Bell Green is excellent news - see home page of site for more details.
So where does this leave all of our elected local councillors who told us that they fully supported the scheme and commended it to the local community?
If the government believe that the proposal requires closer inspection, don't ANY of our local representatives think that they may have made a mistake in recommending it so strongly? Don't forget, this is the second Bell Green development to have been postponed by the government pending a local inquiry. Such inquiries are fairly uncommon and a mark of real doubt in government minds about the good sense of such a scheme.
If central government have doubts about the scheme, why are our local councillors so much in favour of it?

Next week the News Shopper will be running an article on the Government's decision to call in the Bell Green Gasworks Planning Application for scrutiny at a Public Inquiry.
They have requested a "photocall" for Sunday morning at 11.30 am at the gas holders. If you feel as strongly as Sydenham Society does that an Out of Centre Retail Park is not the solution for the regeneration of this site then please turn up - the more the merrier!
