Sydenham Lizard

Check out this Lizard! (I presume that's what it is?) Or is it a newt?

It was sitting on my front step last night. It didn't move when people walked past it and even remained still when I photographed it with a flash. Anyone else seen lizards in Sydenham?

Those damn cats must think we are stupid.

We all know what it is.

Just cos its lizard shaped doesn't mean they can do that on your front step.

The giveaway was that it didn't move when you took its photo.

(A real lizard would have smiled).

Do lizards eat slugs? If so, I want some. Some blighter ate the tip of my delphinium yesterday.

A newt! My mum's garden in Forest Hill used to be over-run with them in the 70s/80s, ditto my nan's garden on Dartmouth Road. Toads used to be in plentiful supply too - my parents thought because of all the underground water round these parts. Then both the newts and the toads seemed to disappear. Perhaps things are looking up if the newts are back in town!
