Hi all,
I'm new to the forum and the last thread I found on this subject was from 2009 so I hope you don't mind me starting afresh!
Does anyone know whether there are any plans to do anything with The Windmill? From what I've heard there was quite a lot of trouble when it was last open but surely there's a better use of the space than its current state? It seems such a shame!
Windmill pub, Kirkdale
Re: Windmill pub, Kirkdale
Everly
Welcome
I think the trouble was exaggerated by the Landlord , who unbelievably wanted to turn it into yet another convenience store.
How many do you need before they become an inconvenience.
This was noble fought by a group headed by Mary to protect a valuable local amenity.
The Pub originally built as a Wetherspoon ( hence the good provision of handicapped toilets etc ) . They sold it after opening of The Capitol , though not immediately.
It seems to have had many owners since then , some excellent , some not so, however the Landlord seems to always claim a Pub cannot make money.
It would be great if a niche Pub could open again.

It's currently on the market. It's not been on the market all that long.
You can google it and find the property ad: it's not cheap, around £1.2m I think. There is a much more recent thread somewhere on this forum about the Windmill, containing the link.

Thank you!
It's just such a shame to see all that Kirkdale has to offer in terms of a quiet(ish) but quaint(ish) high street and then such a huge space put to waste. I'll keep an eye on the thread...
