Reliable locksmith recommendations

Post by Sarah203 »

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a reliable locksmith in the Sydenham area?

Thank you, Sarah

Hi. There's a locksmith at top end of Kirkdale on the left before the roundabout in to Darmouth Rd: http://www.cylex-uk.co.uk/reviews/viewc ... d=17770337

I'm not sure what you mean by reliable. If you want a good lock and can fit it yourself, Ingersoll is top end. You can buy online so only you should have keys as copies can't be made in hardware stores, only bought from Ingersoll. There are Ingersoll lock fitters but if extra keys is a concern then I suppose you'd have to trust an Ingersoll fitter not to have ordered an extra before before fitting the lock. http://www.ingersolllocks.co.uk/index.htm (Not cheap by the way, prices ex VAT on website.)

I suppose you could fit two locks by different makes and fitters.

Do you mean by reliable that a fitter could wreck the wood by badly chiselling out to fit? If you buy from a proper shop, you should have comeback on them and perhaps should get a written assurance to that effect. I'm not at all up on PVC or composite doors, but a locksmith who fits and sells locks ought to be needless to say.

Oops, forgot to say Welcome :)

Thank you, this is very helpful. It's for pvc Windows - we've just be let down by a few local locksmiths that we've found online.

Haven't heard of Ingersoll though so will definitely try them out.

Thanks again!
