Motorcyclists stealing bags

A shopkeeper in Kirkdale has told me that there is a gang of motorcyclists wearing balaclavas who are riding noisily through Sydenham in the early evening trying to steal bags from people. She also said they sometimes pull up alongside cars and try to snatch bags. It's been going on for a month, apparently. Does anyone else know anything about this?
