Hi!

The market is now open until Tuesday 5th May. It is time to have a look on our products catalogue.

For this new sale, we have a flagship product that you might have never eaten yet: the nettle!

Stingy as they are, these plants are nevertheless a gift to anyone who favours cooking with local, seasonal, fresh ingredients.
The flavour is irrefutably "green", somewhere between spinach, cabbage and broccoli, with a unique hint of nettliness: a sort of slight, earthy tingle in the mouth. If you like your greens, you'll like nettles.
The only barrier to enjoyment is the nettle's ferocious stings, but these are easily dealt with: handle them with washing-up gloves. As soon as they are cooked, they don't sting anymore and you can it them without fear.

Brockmans Farm gathers them for you and pack them into bags.
You could make a delicious nettle soup, nettle risotto with sorrel, nettle quiche with bacon, nettle pesto etc. You will find a lot of recipes on the internet.

Marsh produce inaugurates a new sausage made with nettle tips and mint that we are very curious to try tomorrow 30th April!

We will share nettle recipes on our Facebook page, so have a look and share your experience with nettles!

We also have sorrel, spinach, chives, fresh bunch garlic as new vegetables and beer, bread, cheese, honey, granola, seeds butter and pastas (including mushroom and parmesan ravioli)

Everything looking delicious!

If you love the Forest Hill Food Assembly products, want to have them regularly but can't pick them up because you are busy or if you want to help your neighbours and the Food Assembly, you could write your request/offer on the Forest Hill Facebook page to find a neighbour who could pick up your order for you or you could do a favour.

https://www.facebook.com/foresthillfoodassembly

We need your support and a little push as it is quiet at the moment.

Cheers!

The Forest Hill Food Assembly wins Best Food Initiative in BBC Food Awards

The Food Assembly picks up the gong for ‘Best British Food Initiative’ at the BBC Food and Farming Awards in Bristol.

Dubbed the 'Oscars of the Food World’, The Food Assembly received the Best British Food Initiative title for bringing communities together to support local food producers, and for its far-reaching benefits around Britain.

The Food Assembly, with over 700 members in Forest Hill, enables people to buy directly off farmers and local foodmakers, and were congratulated on its innovative platform that’s changing the way we eat.

Every week Food Assembly customers order food online from their local Assembly in Forest Hill, before picking it up at a weekly pop-up market in the Railway Telegraph pub. All the food comes from within 100 miles of the area.

Presenter of BBC Radio 4’s The Food Programme and founder of the awards Sheila Dillon says: “We really wanted to find out who the food heroes were in their neighbourhoods – anyone, any organisation, that through food was making life in Britain better.”

Each Assembly creates paid work for a local host. The Forest Hill Assembly is hosted by food-obsessed Audrey Bouttier & Vincent Spehner who both love to share their passion of food with others.

Vincent says: “I am so proud and delighted that The Food Assembly has won the Best British Food Initiative. Not only has it brought a new access to local food to our family, friends and community, but it's also helping farmers and foodmakers get paid what they deserve for their work.”

People living in Forest Hill can discover their local Food Assembly here https://thefoodassembly.com/en.

The Food Assembly is currently expanding and if anyone is interested in starting a Food Assembly in their area, the opportunity to register is here https://thefoodassembly.com/en.

Hi!

The Forest Hill Food Assembly market is now open.

You will find a new marinated cheese from Blackwoods cheese: it is like feta but made of cows milk and marinated in a blend of extra virgin rapeseed oil and herbs. Excellent to sublimate your salads.

Don't miss Brambletye's apples and other products as biodynamic lettuces, juices, apple sauce and eggs. You have to know that the hens move freely on the orchard and eat the fruits that fall on the ground and bugs, and then fertilise the ground, promoting fruit tree growth. That explains why fruits and eggs taste so good!

Brockmans offers new potatoes and new greens as cucumber, chickweed, chicory and red battavia.

Try Kappacasein's Bis, a type of "Reblochon" that you can enjoy baked on potatoes or simply on toast!

Finally, Clarkshaws brewery will launch a workshop and brewery visit Sunday 28th June. The visit will start at 12.30pm with a tour of the brewery, a talk about ingredients, and then a tasting of a range of different beers. £5 per person. Tickets are available in Clarkshaws' product catalogue.

Place your order until Tuesday 26th May: https://thefoodassembly.com/en/assemblies/49

We need your support!

PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY!

We know you are all struggling with the collection time (every Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30) and your family + professional responsibilities. We often read or hear from you that you couldn't attend the collections because you were too busy.

At the same time, we would like the Forest Hill Food Assembly to grow and get more regular orders, so that there won't be any problem for the producers to reach their minimum and deliver the orders. In this way, everyone would be happy.

So, from now, IN CASE YOU CAN'T GO TO THE VENUE, you can call ON THE MUNCH - a delivery service - and say that you have placed an order at the Forest Hill Food Assembly and that you want them to deliver your food. They charge £5 per delivery and it is only £3 for the first delivery. Here is there phone number: 07961911673
You will find more details here: http://www.onthemunch.com/
This service is only available on Thursday for the Forest Hill Food Assembly.

Overall we highly encourage you to come and meet your producers as much as you can! This is what makes the Food Assembly so original & friendly!

Feel free to ask any question about the delivery service as we are well aware that we haven't given all details about this new thing.

Hope this can help you!

Hi dear neighbours,

The Forest Hill Food Assembly market is open: we have new vegetables as broad beans, land cress and cabbage.

Try also the very summery elderflower and fennel sausage and the gluten free lavender and lemon cake.

We offer the excellent honey from Herne Hill and Nunhead and Emanuela's pastas, ravioli and cappelacci made in East Dulwich.

This is a small selection among more than 100 products!

Place your order at the latest on Tuesday 16th June. If you can't attend the collection on Thursday 18th from 5:30 to 7:30, you can find an arrangement with a friend or neighbour to collect for you or call this number 07961911673 to enjoy Onthemunch home delivery service: £3 for the first delivery, then £5.

I still think I need to be enticed to sign up with the ability to see what foodstuffs are on offer.
I love the idea but the reality is that I wouldn't be able to get to the collections in time after work, so it would be a "special trip" scenario and not something I would really want a "login/password" for.
It would only work for me if it were actually in Sydenham

Thanks for your feedback The clown. It is very difficult for us to satisfy everyone with the opening times: on the one hand, parents say it is too late because of their family responsibilities, on the other hand people like you say we close too early.

You could find a neighbour or friend who could place an order too and pick up your basket for you.

Or you could go to the Food Assembly in Nunhead ; it's every Sunday.

Kind Regards,

Audrey

Hi,

You have two days left to place an order with the Forest Hill Food Assembly and we have just added tomatoes, red battavia, thyme, khol rabi and other greens to your delight.
We also have fabulous meat, bread, cheese, beer, honey, cakes, tarts, seed butter and granola! All fresh and local!

Think that, if you can't come during the collection, we can leave your order in the bar (if you collect it the same day) or you can call onthemunch for a home delivery service at this number 07961911673.
Vincent & I live on Cranston road and can keep your order for you if you can collect it on Friday or we can drop your basket off if you live in the neighbourhood. We are always happy to help if it also helps our local producers.

We will gather with other members for a picnic on Blythe Hill Fields this Saturday 4th July from noon. You are all welcome!
The festival organisers will sell raffle tickets during the collection on Thursday 2nd, £1 each, so feel free to come and see us if you pass by! Lots of vouchers, hampers and even a TV to win as a generous basket from the Forest Hill Food Assembly!

We hope to see you!

Audrey & Vincent
