Nickerbockers - I'm not sure who you are referring to when you say that "they saw fit to close down our local cinema in Catford".
The cinema in Catford was shut down by the owners of the cinema who no longer felt it was viable. Unfortunately, no cinema chain has come along to take its place which is why the local authority began showing films in the Catford Theatre.
There is a shortage of local cinemas. Surely we should be applauding anyone trying to fill this gap as Lewisham council and FH library are doing.
What exactly is the point you are trying to make?

Hi. Very interesting. Is it the library on Dartmouth Road please? Don't suppose there's a URL link re details? Ta and sorry for being lazy and not Googling.
It's also interesting that it's seemingly free. I say this because at a meeting of the Scrutiny committee for Lambeth earlier this year there was much concern that library profits from incidentals (e.g. DVD hire and photocopying) had fallen badly and they were looking at ways of bringing new profits in. Hats off to Lewisham if they are providing a service without trying to charge over the odds.

The film club at FH Library is under the control of the FH Library manager. I have asked her/him to post publicity about upcoming events on this site in future. Here is her/his message about events in January:

On the subject of films - it's annoying they've closed the Blockbusters in F Hill. I know the dvd market has changed and it's really cheap to buy (but I don't want to own every film I watch) and online competition is hotting up (but there's something very un-impromtu/pop in when there's nothing on TV about online rental). Rumour is that there turning it into a betting shop. Nice.
Still I think there's an independent one up the Dartmouth Road.
And still (sort of) on the subject of films - what the arse is that new place where Appollo used to be in Syd. High street? Didn't leave me feeling inspired.

I heard that the old Blockbuster was bought/leased out to the people who own WHSmith and Boots. Would be good to have a decent branch of either as the ones in Forest Hill are too small really.
FYI Sydenhamboy:
For Your Eyes Only on Dartmouth Road is a brilliant dvd hire place. The owner's really into films, and will order in anything you request if he doesn't have it already.
