Re: New coffee shops and closures

I imagine it’s so tricky between rents, costs increasing and the need to move with the times which in itself costs money (eg: If the stationers had a newer different shop front/layout would it have brought more custom etc?). I feel that although some businesses appear to be thriving I wonder whether ...

New coffee shops and closures

Just in case of interest there have been 2 new coffee shops opened in the last month or two and another on the way on Kirkdale. Four boroughs on station approach - pretty much takeaway only - very popular coffee and other merchant (sells cycle related merch). They’re 4th place alongside CP, ...

Vote for NCIL funding for local projects

The list of local projects that could get funding is up for Sydenham and neighbouring places in Lewisham. The process is far longer and needlessly more janky than it needs to be but you can vote for 3 projects in each of up to 3 different areas if you wish. You have to do the intro section and put ...

Re: Proposal to make Byne and Wiverton Roads one way

Re: your last point wonder whether the fact both Byne and Wiverton are entirely within Bromley and Venner strays into Lewisham? I’m always confused by it as I’m on Byne - Sydenham post code, bromley council, penge east station nearest station but Sydenham high street nearest high street lol

Think we have around 10-12 people confirmed so if you fancy a board game, socialising, a ping or a bit of all 3 feel free to come join from 7ish. Any abilities/experience welcome, bring a game or just play what the regulars bring. The ...

Re: TfL rules out regular London Overground trains to London Bridge

In either case the huge issue is for anyone with an impairment that increases difficulty of changing trains. Whether it be a physical impairment due to disability or older age, a cognitive impairment or a sensory impairment by entirely cutting a direct train from Honor Oak, Forest Hill, Sydenham and ...

Re: Licence application for gambling……

The latest Sydenham society newsletter has the reasons why they have objected in case helpful Barry or anyone else. The Sydenham Society objected to the licensing application for the following reasons: There is already a concentration of 3 betting shops within 100 yards; The premises are in close ...

Re: Licence application for gambling……

I emailed the licensing folk and cc’d in the councillors and got a pretty quick response from both parties that they had recieved my email etc. Just thought would flag as Lewisham website was having some issues earlier today (at least). For ease here are all emails: Licensing@lewisham.gov.uk chris.b ...

Re: Licence application for gambling……

100% agreed. I’m not averse to different businesses and things in the area that I don’t use/like if they contribute to the community etc. But in this case - it’s not providing much in the way of employment, gambling generally preys on those less fortunate and creates more social issues and being limi ...

Re: New board game night at Ignition

Hey Andrew - This Thursday is the quiz (!) - the first Thursday of each month. The board game evening is now the THIRD Thursday of the month so the 15TH FEB! Would be brilliant to get another regular if you are a bit of a gamer! We have tried to keep the night going but numbers are generally 4-6 ...

Re: New board game night at Ignition - Update!

Morning all - Just a little update on this. Due to it being difficult to get a decent number of regulars on the last Thursday of the month there are two incoming changes. Firstly it will be on the THIRD Thursday of each month - next one being Nov 16th! Secondly although not up yet it’s due to be b ...

Re: Ignition under new management

No problem. Forgot to mention they are also very much planning on extending closing time as last orders have always been pretty early for various reasons but this is being looked at with last orders more like 10/10:30 then 9:30ish. Keep on supporting Ignition and the high street if you can folk 👍 as ...

Re: Ignition under new management

Yep - Know a load about it so here’s some word vomit lol. The 3 initial founders - Nick in particular who was the face/was by the far the most involved in running it - wanted to pass it on after having achieved their aim of very successfully building a not for profit brewery based around supporting p ...

One closure, one opening!

Thought along my incessant twittering (sydenhamural) I would pop here to just say that: BOBs wine/bottle shop has now sadly closed permanently- however the nearest specialist one is only 2 mins walk - Bottlecave on the high street. Leo (@leo_foood on Twitter and on Instagram) have opened their ...

Re: New board game night at Ignition

Well I’m glad I returned to post! Any questions fire away and I’ll be there from 5ish (!). Hopefully see you and anyone you fancy bringing on Thursday :)

Very doubtful you would need to book a table but if you are coming as a group of 4 let’s say might be worth emailing max@ignition.beer to book.
