Re: Been to The Greyhound yet?
Having left Sydenham for nearby Brockley a couple of years ago, I couldn't resist checking out the bar that was a relentlessly hot topic/potato of conversation ever since I first moved to Sydenham (about 10 years ago). In fact I remember having a pint in the 'old' Greyhound - and although that would ...

Re: sydenham needs an uplifting
It's a shame reading this. I was a resident of Sydenham for 10 years and although 'gentrification' (for want of a better word) was slow, to the point of sluggish, at times, it still seems the same old problems exist. I now live 'up the gingerline' in Brockley - and although it's a similar area, the ...

Re: Location Location Location Channel 4
It was good a good episode. It clumped together 'metropolitan village' atmosphere of Crystal Palace, 'trendy' East Dulwich, 'super cool' Forest Hill and 'cosmopolitan' Sydenham. Interesting how zone 3 is perceived (compared with 'suburban' Beckenham). That's why it's frustrating that many (although ...

Don't knock it. It helps 'tidy up' a ropey looking high street.

Ok maybe that's pushing it a bit but you know what I mean. I heard somebody mention Thamesmead as upcoming the other day. Now that is weird!Parker1970 wrote:#ThingsINeverExpectedToHearsydenhamboy wrote: 'up and coming' areas like New Cross

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?
I'm surprised Antic never came back seeing that they were originally going to open up (even to the point of having the Greyhound on their website) and they only pulled out because of the complete arse Purelake seemed to make of things. They still would have been the best bet, I would have thought ...

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?
What it needs is just a few 'quality' places all near each other - so you get 'an end' of the high street that suddenly has a 'feel' to it - as has seemed to have in Forest Hill. Not a stone's throw away from Sydders, sections of Forest Hill have created something resembling a 'vibe'. Somebody ...

Earl is great ... Used him last week and will do again ... 07951535534. Say Rory from Sydenham recommended.

Re: Golden Lion pub
Yes. Simple. Make it more cosy. There are other pubs that cater for the sports/brightly lit pubs - but I get the impression that the Golden Lion is after another punter. So if they get that right, the right people will be attracted to the put because, overall, the décor in the G.L. is really good. ...

Sydenham... so close to Crystal Palace and Dulwich?! Funnily I used to say the same when I lived in West Norwood.

Re: Guardian's Let's Move To... feature
Not a bad write-up .. our links to Central London sound good and the mention of the 'cosmopolitan' high street are positive and although the references to suburbia are a bit overdone (we are zone 3), we are told that, actually, Sydenham is far from it. Mayow Park cafe (no surprise - it's great ...

Re: Guardian's Let's Move To... feature
I wrote a few points to the Guardian - mainly praising the area, with reference to Mayow Park and the good cafes and bars and having a moan about the Greyhound debacle. I wonder when they'll run the Let's Move To ... feature - is it on Fridays or Saturdays?

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?
Yeah - stick with that name.
THere's a great pub in Dulwich Village called the Greyhound (I think, anyway). So I say let's get a pub built first - the name is the least of our troubles!

Re: Golden Lion pub
Went for the first time since refurbished. Must say it lacked inspiration and warmth. We both went to the Dolphin after - straight away atmosphere , comfortable and a bit of buzz . Food was very nice too. A very good afternoon Nigel. Yeah - but I remember the Dolphin feeling a bit like that when it ...

Re: Golden Lion pub
Much much better in there. Very nice. Glad there's a room (I think) without a TV. Looking forward to eating later. Have they lost the neon purple light in the evenings now? Well done the Golden Lion. Just the Greyhound to go and that will 'top 'n' tail' Syd High Street nicely for evening bars. Let's ...
Re: Mopeds
They've been doing it for years - pretty much as long as I've lived in Sydenham (10 years) which means they're all ten years older. Sad 30 year old men racing around on their little bikes, sounding like distant angry wasps. I fear it's all they've got in their little lives. They get home, have a ...

Re: Golden Lion pub
Isn't it great that there's an enthusiastic member of staff to feedback to - this could really help the pub owners turn it into a success by listening to their customers - especially the ones who want this sort of oub to do well. I for one cannot wait to taste the burgers - I love 'simple' home ...
