Re: Sydenham Tyres
At least a good proportion of the fly-tipping is provably and unquestionably theirs, ie knackered hubcaps and car parts and take-aways right outside the shop. They also currently use all of that end of Larkbere Road for tyre storage: on the pavement, outside the lock-up next to someone's house, and ...

Re: NEW: LGBTQIA+ Book Group at Kirkdale Bookshop!
Hi TheBookshop, Thanks for organising this and for putting it out there. To ask a potentially stupid question, what does one have to do - just read the book in question and turn up, and is there a fee, or do you require a contribution on the wine front? Hoping to attend, so sorry if that's a daft ...

Re: Sydenham Tyres
Yes... they've always been a problem, but it's gotten much, much worse, and the council just turn a blind eye. They fly tip so regularly that even if you use fix my street or whatever, by the next day they'll have chucked more rubbish out on the pavement. The street signs for Larkbere Road have been ...

Re: Loft conversion recommendations
Friends of mine did exactly the layout you're talking about and it looks amazing. They paid about 40k, but that was about 6 years ago, so I'd guess between 40-50 now. From what I understand/have been told, it's a good idea to use a company who specialise in this, rather than an individual building ...

Re: Bakerloo Line Extension
Interesting, re the above, thanks for posting. Surely, even if the Bakerloo Line doesn't come to Lower Sydenham, at some point the station moving down towards Sainsbury has to be a fairly strong/logical proposition? Its current location, just off a meandering, lonely, badly lit road (presumably as a ...

Re: Syd Society help request for pavement opposite library?
Hi Emc, Yes, we do get more than our fair share here, and inevitably a good chunk comes from the garage end. There's always a steady stream of wet wipes blowing down the road, and customers from there, and from the junk food shops regularly eat takeaway food in their cars while waiting, tossing the ...

Re: Washing machine thread
With respect, Admin, I don't really see why this had to be moved - the forum would be greatly improved if this kind of info (trades recommendations and the like) was more prominent. Removing such useful information to an area one has to log in to view seems a shame IMO. I know loads of people ...

Re: Washing machine
To be perfectly honest, it's an easy job - you could do it yourself. If you haven't got the manual then try Googling, but essentially it's just connecting a red hose and a blue one.
Good luck in any case.

Re: Worst local transport journeys?
I started using Lower Sydenham when London Bridge was out of action. Prior to that I had always avoided it, because I didn't like the walk back from there at night. However, the difference between there and the shockingly unreliable services from Sydenham is so pronounced that I only ever go from ...

I have no intention of imposing my particular ideas on everyone else. I just want something positive to cheer people up when they go into the station. Thanks for all you're doing, JRW, regarding this and the monstrosity. You're putting a lot of time in to doing something constructive, and as an ...

Welcome back! The Poodle Club is a brilliant venue and we've had several fantastic nights out there. The Jack Studio Theatre in Brockley is a sensational place - their last in-house production, Kes, was just breathtaking, and we're heading there tonight for a piece about Quentin Crisp. There's a ...

Hi Dom, A pre-emptive welcome to Sydenham! We live on Larkbere Road, and so I thought I would take the time to write and respond to you. We moved to Sydenham eight years ago and we absolutely love it here. I have written at length on this forum about problems with the tyre shop at the end of the ...

Thanks for the input and solidarity on this. I'm going to have a think about what can be done and post again when I have - possibly with the email mentioned, thanks.
If nothing else, I'm glad to have raised awareness of this issue - your responses are much appreciated.

For what it's worth, I love the fourth one, the black and gold - think it'd look great. I can see from the pinned thread you've had a setback, but don't let it deter you or get you down. You've achieved so much already - good luck to you, JMLF.
