Re: Conservation area query

Hi Stuart! No, I'm not back, sadly, but I never properly leave Sydenham it seems – I still help out with the Syd Soc News from afar, and occasionally I'm in the neighbourhood. I like to check out the forum now and again, just bein nosy! That's very interesting about the Henry Hope windows, I have o ...

Re: Conservation area query

Anyone thinking of replacing windows on a 30s house – please consider steel windows! The original windows on many 30s houses were steel Crittal windows. These days they are rust proof and come in single or double-glazed, and look fantastic, and also prevent burglaries because they are so strong. ...

I also highly recommend Progas 0208 676 0101. I have used them for the past 6 years and they have been brilliant and charge reasonable prices.

Garden fence repairer?

I need to get a wooden garden fence repaired – parts of it will need completely replacing. Also my neighbours might want a new fence on part of their garden.
Does anyone know a good and reliable person/company that could do this?

Thanks in advance

Re: Kirkdale Village – Street Beautification Project

I'd volunteer and donate everything needed if they would stop using that ****ing stupid 'rebranded' name. The term 'Kirkdale Village' is ludicrous and is a pasted on afterthought just as that ridiculous mosaic that doesn't seem to have much approval by the people in the area but, strangely, keeps ...

Re: Gordon Ramsay at the Dulwich Wood House

We went to the DWH on monday night and all three of us had burger & chips. On monday night you can get two burgers n chips for £12 or £7.95 for one. We ate in the garden and really enjoyed the meal, the burger was really very tasty indeed – true there was no tomato on it but it did come with a dec ...

I think its fine for the kids to cycle, though if its only a mile I'd make them walk instead, I think its a lot safer. Though apparently these two cycle to school on the pavement – I wonder how long it'll be before the 5 and 8 year old get prosecuted for that – presumably that'll be real taste for th ...

Someone suggested to me the smell is flowering privet hedges - but I'm not sure about that – I think it really is lime tree blossom. I smelt the exact same smell in Waitrose carpark the other day and looked up and there were lots of lime trees with blossom on and not many other plants around at all s ...

Sydenham Smells Lovely

Is it my imagination or does Sydenham smell LOVELY? The last two evenings I've got the train from town to Sydenham and when I've got off the train at Sydenham I have noticed it smells really strongly of flowers - its really noticable walking all the way from the station and up Westwood Hill. My ...

One of my all time favourite reviews on here is for the Hollywood East pub, next to Penge East station: "Alright, not as intimidating as it's first, exterior impression. Can buy stolen meat and perfume there." Aw… brilliant, that just had me guffawing out loud and my cat looking at me like I'm mad. ...

I didn't have to wait for any trains, they all turned up right away (and on time).

ELL is perfect for me as I work mainly in Farringdon and Shoreditch. I hadn't even noticed that Farringdon is now easy too, so thanks for that admin! Funny how alot of people don't realise the tube is now here. People have been so sceptical, saying 'it'll never happen' I think because there was very ...

Best London Pub Garden competition

I heard thru the grapevine there's going to be a BBC radio competition for best London Pub Garden, and it might be worth dropping a line to the Robert Elms show on Radio London to mention The Dolphin garden as this is surely a worthy contender.

Cheers Raven Drone, for the imaginary pint – if were in the Town Pub forum i'd gladly return the favour! And I agree its been brilliant having some healthy discussion, I'd hate it if everyone agreed, we'd never learn anything. What a fascinating election, seems like all the predictions were wrong in ...
