Re: New homes for Sydenham Hill Estate?

The objectors can spend their own money on this if they like. But it's a bit rich that the rest of us will be left paying the bill for the council's legal fees racked up by this claim.

Re: What’s going on at x?

I love this idea that's cropped up that the gasholders were about to become some underground heat green energy site, until the head of SGN, who is now cast as the villain of the piece, nixed it. Or something... https://twitter.com/SydenhamSociety/sta ... 18272?s=20

Re: Bell Green Proposals

I support turning these big box sites and car parking into homes. However, we can't allow this to become a displacement activity that allows viable plans for homes elsewhere in Sydenham to be refused now, on the pretext that they could be situation in Bell Green at some other point in the distant ...

A pattern of behaviour: claiming to speak on behalf of all the community, without basis; sowing wild rumours; hyperbolic language; aggressive campaigning and lobbying - often to get their way on quite minor questions of planning or aesthetics that boil down to little more than personal preferences ...

Not surprising. A very hostile and unwelcome atmosphere being created by this campaign.

While one can argue over the merits of this campaign, it's VERY welcome that the Sydenham Society have chosen to publish their full submission online. It would be welcome if this continues for other developments.

Complaining about the building to the Pope was a particular low-point.

Re: 291/307 Kirkdale Planning Consultation 14 March

Someone who knows planning law better would be able to clarify, but I'm not sure it's required, given it's adjacent to the station and bus stops.
Also, given the air quality crisis, isn't encouraging car-free living on high streets a good thing?

Re: Bell Green Masterplan Presentation at Bellingham Assembly

So what you're saying is that, even at this incredibly early stage in thinking, a future of Bell Green without the gasholders is non-negotiable? The other question I have is how the masterplan relates to the fact that this is private land, and what discussions are taking place with the sites' owners.

Designs look rather good, I think. And an infinite improvement on it sitting empty, or a nightclub.

Re: Bell Green Urban Renewal Plan

I agree - some of the major supermarkets are rebuilding stores along this model. A much better use of space and adds the benefit of an area being “lived in” rather than just warehousing. While it would be nice to see housing at Bell Green, it does strike me this may be a long-term aspiration with som ...

Re: Bell Green Urban Renewal Plan

I’m very enthused by the idea of turning car parks into housing. Replacing big box retail with housing is what cities should be doing and what’s happening on Old Kent Road. However I’m keen to understand, how does this masterplan get reconciled with the fact this is private land? Have we seen much to ...

Re: Bell Green - A New Plan, January 2019

I see on twitter some people are now demanding Mayor Egan is forced to resign because they disagree with his application of national planning law relating to the gas holders.

Is this how adults behave when they don’t get their own way?

Unless the correction is driven by higher interest rates, suppressed wages and tougher borrowing conditions. And if builders respond, predictably, by building less, when the only real way to address the housing crisis faced by young Londoners is a sustained increase in supply.

We’ve heard it before from the same councillor repeatedly. Comparison seems pretty clear ““The Bell Green gas holders have survived bombing raids in the Second World War but will they survive Lewisham Council’s planning committee next Thursday?” https://www.newsshopper.co.uk/news/15674938.Towering_Sy ...
