If anyone would like help out, please to donate to this. The SFH youth forum wants to conduct a massive study on how and where young people spend their free time.
Helping out
Re: Helping out
Can I suggest that you apply for funding from a local assembly for this, I think it's important, far more than funding images of a kitten in a bucket on a mosaic. I would vote for it.
Before coming up with any solutions you have to define the problem.
I applaud your initiative on this.

Re: Helping out
I believe there is an application to the Forest Hill Ward assembly from Sydenham and Forest Hill Youth Forum - even if there was not an application to the Sydenham assembly. The Forest Hill ward assembly is this Sunday. There have not been any applications for kittens in buckets or mosaics amongst the 17 applications, although I have submitted a bid for funding to turn a shop front into a giant jellyfish tank.

Re: Helping out
Yes, there is an application for FH ward by us. The run The Amazing Fundraising Group - teaching a group of young people to think of innovative ways to gain £2 a month donations to help projects that help young people in the three wards of Sydenham, Forest Hill and Perry Vale.
So far, we have made a short film. A comedy sketch show. Next up is a music track and working on performances to perform to adults as well as the elderly (both in and out of care homes).
Keep an eye out! And vote for us!
We're asking for £5k and have a target to gain 200-250 givers by the end of March 2012. This means that FH Assembly have paid for all the workshops and youth programmes BUT MORE CLEVER THAN THAT, the project will have reverse-match-funded itself as people's generous donations kick in. I'm all about not just spending local resources and govt money but using it to create more opportunities. Young people should be enterprising, read our annual report 2008/2009 for some of the ideas I want to try out. Many of us won't notice £2 a month, but I know a fair few groups who will.
Vote for us on Sunday! (Assuming I don't get ambushed with rubber bullets!)

Re: Helping out
Idea number one:
Dig it!
Every Wednesday and Saturday residents can get their front gardens done for £20 or for free for houses with monthly donations registered at the address.
Young people interested in plants and landscaping can work as a team to transform residents’ homes.
This project will be based on having a youth worker present, as well as a fully CRB-checked volunteer gardener to work with five young people on gardens within the community.
The project can also be used for businesses, youth projects, parks and pedestrian walkways, though charges may vary.
Young people undertaking the project can clock up their hours in a scheme that the Forum will thread through all our projects, giving young people a chance to gain awards for their services, and accreditations where possible for their skills and achievements.
If you like the sound of this project, or any of the following ones, please contact us. The Forum will need volunteers to help these ideas become reality.

Re: Helping out
Another idea if we had sizable donations:
Local Business Partnership
Employ a young person part-time and we’ll pay a third of their wages.
If you are a local business that supports the Forum, we will pay up to £2 per hour for a seven hour day based upon the amount of hours set by the government for that age group to work per week.
If you are a young person fed up of being broke and unemployed, this is an opportunity to become more appealing to businesses.
Young people would be able to download the application form from the forthcoming Forum website and give it to a potential employer along with their c.v. It might help them get the job.
The website will also show young people how to produce a c.v. and how to market themselves to be more attractive to business.
It is hoped that local business will want to work in partnership with the Forum, providing work experience placements and apprentice opportunities.
This was a key concern for many young people we talked with.
We want to see young people financially more independent and learn early on, how good it feels to earn, spend and save their own money.

Re: Helping out
Another idea:
Professionalise Your Talent
We want young people to be able to tell us what their talent is so that we can streamline them into improving it in constructive, fun and exciting ways.
Young people can contact us through our website and we’ll help them find a suitable course or activity and then help fund it.
It might be experience in a recording studio, or a place on a football team. It might be finding the right chess or math club. More often than not there are lots of activities existing already. It’s about getting information out to young people. The website will be crucial here allowing organisations to add and amend their timetables and email the young people on the Forum’s database.
If young people can club together using our social networking technology and become a team of five or more, the Forum could even find and fund a music producer, sports hall and coach, or tutor.
Conditions could include that unless sick or unhappy, the young person must complete the course and give the Forum a copy of what they’ve done.
The young members would also tell the Forum if it was beneficial and what could be done to improve it if things didn’t go so well. The key message here: You can't just drop out.

Re: Helping out
Another idea based on having a healthy public fund:
Do — It — Yourself!
This project involves the super keen community planners getting involved in directly helping the community.
Here young people can produce their very own community project by applying to the Forum.
Applications will be looked at by an open committee of volunteers and those chosen can receive up to £200 to complete their project.
Members can re-apply to complete as many community projects as they wish.
This project comes with a community planning information pack devised by the Forum and a training session run by youth workers or volunteers.
Community projects must not harm anyone, break the law in any way and where needed, permission from authorities must be first sought before changing anything within the community.
It could be an improvement to a park, pathway, club, classroom, community centre and the improvement could be anything the young people want to see change.
Here would be a great chance to build up our inter-generational work, partnership work with youth clubs and give those keen to get involved in improving the community opportunities to gain accreditations and awards for the efforts that they put in. We would also like to develop training young people to be leaders, mentors and ambassadors for the local community.
