I now have neighbours who want a loft extension with their proposed Dormer windows looking down into my Toilet and Bathroom!
What happened to privacy?
When I asked the council they say they have no choice but to allow it!
HSG 12 Residential Extensions
The Council expects residential extensions to be attractive, to be neighbourly and to meet the functional requirements of their future inhabitants. It will, therefore, only permit extensions which:
(b) do not result in an appreciable loss of privacy and amenity (including sunlight and daylight) for adjoining houses and their back gardens;
I dont think the policy Michael refers to applys in the case of roof extensions.
I would guess the Council are saying they they " No choice but to allow it", is because it complies with "Permitted Development" rights. You can read that legisaltion here
I have spoken to Lewisham council and they have no say in certificates of lawful developement which apparently is what has been applied for,up to 40 square meters I believe she said,once over 40 they then have to apply for actual planning permission,but its unlikely they have exceeded the required amount.
Their roof is slightly higher than ours, so to be able to look down is an option,
I guess i shall have to show them my "bum" a few times, that will put them off! haha.
oh well!
