Something's afoot, but the drunks are normally loitering in front of the planning notice every time I walk past.
Does anyone have an idea what's going on?
That's The Greyhound, the Girls House building, the new Costcutter AND this building currently under development. Anyone would think the High Street is getting "better". Or, at least, different.
What's the Sydenham Hypermarket turning into?
Re: What's the Sydenham Hypermarket turning into?
Looking at the equipment being installed it looks pretty certain that it will be a supermarket of some sort; chillers etc. Will probably be in direct competition with the Costcutter which is opening up next door, probably compete on the price of super strength larger and cider. Guess they're looking for people heading west out of the post office to get a stiffener before they pop into Ladbrokes. Those heading east can go straight into the Two Halves, possibly buying some flowers first.
The "Girls House", or curtain shop, wants to be a Money Store. To answer your question dickp, no its not getting better, or different, just more of the same.

Well, at least these new people seem to be spending a decent amount of money making their shops presentable, hopefully inside and out.
I can't say I will probably use any of them, but at least they won't look too shabby as I walk past them on my way back from the Co-Op (which really isn't bad these days).

I walked past yesterday and saw the PFC sign, and thought "oh no! not another Perfect Fried Chicken!" - only to realise that it stands for Penge Food Centre.

The Penge Food Centre's a welcome addition. Decent fresh food and very good for speciality items.

Got to be a good addition to the high street, must be better than co-op.
