Battery recycling bin in Kirkdale

Post by Robin Orton »

The handy (for me) battery recycling bin outside Tesco's in Kirkdale seems to have disappeared. Does anyone know why? I'm not sure whether Tesco or Lewisham council looked after it. Is there another one in the Upper Sydenham/Dartmouth Road area?

No, but Sainbury's recycled almost everything including batteries in Bell Green. We only use rechargable ones now and is much cheaper.

I would love them to offer recycling for tetra pack cartons though. Everyone packs their milk an juices in these and you cant recycle the damn things.

I'd love a bring and weigh shop where you bring your own container and fill it yourself, like Unpackaged in London.

It may be worth having a word with the management in Tesco Robin to ask about the bin, they may know, or write to them (Tesco do open customers letters).

Apparently all shops that sell batteries are now obliged to accept them back for recycling, so that's why so many shops now have a collection bin. Maybe Tesco's now have a collection bin inside the store. There should also be one in Forest Hill Library.

As for Tetrapak recycling, I heard a while ago that there's a collection point in the car park at Forest Hill Sainsbury's, but not at Bell Green Sainsbury's, which I found rather strange, give the size of the Bell Green store.

Yes, blushing snail, I found that out yesterday.

I will write to them and ask them if they can up their game.

And Sydenham Council for that matter, what they take in recycling is very limited and to be honest a bit shameful.

Here is a map showing which councils do and don't collect Tetrapack cartons:

We are now transition town after all.
