Start of the 2010 garden waste collection

Post by Chris Best »

Following last year’s successful trial, Lewisham Council is once again offering residents a more convenient - and free - way of disposing of garden waste at the weekend.

Starting from today, Saturday 20 March, until 28 November 2010 Girton Road car park will have the refuse truck and staff available from 9am to 12noon on Saturdays and Sundays.

To use the service, residents need to ensure that garden waste is presented to Council staff in plastic or reusable bags. Flowers and plants, grass clippings, hedge trimmings, leaves, and twigs and branches up to four inches in diameter will all be accepted.

The Council cannot accept kitchen waste, vegetable peelings, soil, turf, stones or Japanese knotweed.

The service is free, but residents should bring along proof of address and ID, otherwise they may be refused access to the service. No trade waste or trailers, vans or open back vehicles will be allowed.

Garden waste can also be taken to the reuse and recycling centre on Landmann Way, New Cross. Green garden waste bags can be purchased from any Lewisham library and arrange collection through CallPoint - 020 8314 7171.
