A little earlier this evening their seemed to be more stranded buses on dartmouth road/ kirkdale, than at camberwell bus garage. One bus on the roundabout was stuck in the ice and had slid into the barriers, it continued to slide, precariously.
But thanks to a passing gritter lorry who's co-driver got on TOP of the lorry and threw the grit into the middle of the round about and under the bus ( no gloves on, he must have been fffffffFREEZING) enabled the bus to move.
Ok maybe this is what gritting is all about but they did a bloody good job I didn't see it all but last time the snow was a problem here 2 blokes where digging buses out.
JUst makes me want to say thanks. esp to the 2 blokes digging.
Lewisham council if your reading please convoy a big thanks to that driver and co driver who did a brilliant job, and also thanks to the bus drivers who didn't give up.
bus rescue!
That's a great story!
Anyone know if Wells Park Rd has been gritted yet or if the buses are running up there again? Had to abandon car near top yesterday after a hair-raising journey from Crystal Palace (too many hills!). A bus had totally blocked the road and we were sliding all over the place. Had baby in car so obviously wanted to get home quickly. Would like to get car back soon, as i'm sure many others would. Only went that way to avoid carnage on Westwood Hill, d'oh!
Cheers.
