Abusive Post?
Admin, do you not have a record of what McLondres had posted in the Town Cafe (Limescale out of kettles etc. thread) at about 17:30 yesterday? He edited the content himself at 18:30 (along with many of his other posts), so it was on for about an hour. It was extremely abusive, vulgar and racist to this forum in general.
I did not see the post so I cannot comment. I was on the wifi-less 176.
In general if you are concerned with any post being abusive please you should first take it up with the poster (preferably politely by PM).
If you think it sufficiently serious as to require immediate removal or the poster is unwilling to modify a post please PM myself and the other moderator.
If you are unhappy with the moderators action (or inaction) this is the place to take us to task.

I saw the offending posts.
Since they were on for such a short time, since the poster removed them himself, since the poster has decided to leave the forum, and since you cannot reasonably expect Admin to be monitoring the forum 24/7, I don't see that there is much that can be done.
Creating a big long thread about how much of an idiot the offender was perceived to be will only give him the satisfaction of knowing he's pi$$ed people off, and shows this forum in a negative light to potential new members.
I honestly feel, maestro, that it would be better for the forum if you let it go.

Barty, I haven't created any big long thread (or indeed any thread on the subject, not even this one!). You say the poster decided to leave the forum himself, but shouldn't we make an effort to stop him coming back, especially after you witnessed what he had posted? We'll agree to disagree on this one then.

I doubt very much that Admin can stop the return of McLondres given that all one requires to join up is an active email address. Sure we'd smell him a mile off, not least because I think he's the only troll on the forum? Failing that his syntax would be a dead give away.
I personally thought he got bored as most people increasingly ignored him (I'd been lurking for a wee while before registering). I do not mean this personally but I do wonder maestro if he focused most of his bile toward your good self as you had engaged him head on - which is often what these people want. An obvious target for their baiting and vitriol.
We can but hope he doesn't come back. I hope you didn't find what he/she wrote too upsetting maestro.
Anyway if anyone wants me to pull this post down so we're not discussing he/she just say the word!

There are ways and means to find out where a person is posting from and block all posts from that computer. The webmaster(s) of another fourm I used to post on employed this technique against people they didn't like.Ulysses wrote:I doubt very much that Admin can stop the return of McLondres given that all one requires to join up is an active email address.
In this case the poster has a dynamic IP with a popular ISP which also serves a number of well respected posters here. So I don't think you want me to do what I could.
Anybody who understands how forums work can return. It is amazing that of the dozen or so people who have been asked to leave only one continues to try and return to their abusive ways. Its only going to be successful (ie they are not sussed) if they don't return to their previous pattern of abuse.
In this case I should have acted earlier in other ways. The trouble is - as maestro can confirm - a premature reaction to an unfamiliar poster testing the limits of humour is not easily forgiven or forgot!
