Barratt gasholders development; object to dark red bricks

Here is a chance to make a difference re the colour of the Barratt development. The application is for dark red bricks, which will overwhelm the listed Livesey Hall, behind which it will tower. We have been pushing for paler bricks, but Barratt are determined to go for the cheapest bricks, which are dark coloured. Apparently there is less competition in the supply of paler, buff bricks.

Included is a photo of the materials display. It is not accessible to the public, as Barratt had repeatedly promised. It shows that the bottom half of the brickwork has been painted over with a coloured wash; you can see this from the fact that the pointing is an identical colour. They have not actually produced a sample panel with the correct materials, as required.

The planning consent was conditional on agreeing on materials that wouldn't detract from the listed Livesey Memorial Hall. None of the elevations in this application show the materials in context of the Livesey, so the overall effect can be judged. No such images were produced at the planning committee, which was criticised by the committee.

Please take time to put an objection in, calling for paler bricks and a public display for consultation, next to the Livesey wall. If these bricks are used, the development will be very overwhelming and domineering as it rises behind the listed group, and this is our best chance of improving it visually.

If you can't manage the online portal, please send your objection by email to planning@lewisham.gov.uk, quoting your full name, full address, and the application reference DC/25/141218.

Best,

Julia
