Development opposite the main Bell Green housing development

Post by Whiftoff »

Does anyone else think that the new development opposite the main Bell Green housing development (next to the row of shops inc the internet cafe and Ja-Me-Kit) looks like a load of site portacabins stacked on top of each other?

Is this the application you mean - 50-84 BELL GREEN, LONDON, SE26 4PZ?

I've not had a look myself, so can't really express a view. I noticed that the application was made while I was chair of SydSoc, and we didn't make any response, though we were consulted. In retrospect, I'm not sure what SydSoc could have done - if we're saying now this looks an eyesore - since our time and resources were limited.

It would be nice, in principle, if more people could involve themselves in commenting on planning applications, but it requires being alert to what applications are being made, some knowledge of how planning works, and a coherent idea of what development is desirable in order to decide what to comment on. This post I did a few weeks agowas some kind of attempt in this direction, but it doesn't take you very far. However, it could be adapted in any number of ways to pick out particular types of application which could be worth looking at.

The artists drawings looked great, as did the building it was based on in New Cross. What is going up looks pretty horrible though.

It's like going into McDonalds. What you get never looks like the picture.

Hopefully it will look better when its finished but can't imagine those green plastic panel's are going age well.

Also, what's with the plastic looking scuptures outside the bigger development across the road. I've walked past a few times trying to work out if there some kind of temporary structure. They look like a couple of broken child's windmill's.

They are sculpture of trees Whitoff. A long time ago there were trees in Bell green, so rather than plant real ones they made two out of metal for birds to train for the sequel to a famous Hitchcock film.

Pear trees, to be precise. Perhaps a seasonal partridge, lovingly crafted from sparkly silver duct tubing, would have made it a bit clearer.

It looks disgusting, however it fits in well with the remaining buildings at the side of it which should also have been demolished
