Meet The Amazing Fun-draising Group

This is an invitation to meet the young people who have been working hard to raise funds for youth activities sadly eroded due to recession cuts.

We at The Sydenham and Forest Hill Youth Forum are taking action. We decided back in 2009 that the best thing to do is get stuck in and get active in tackling the issue of lack of funding.

We set up a group where young people decide ways to fun-draise. We have done pop-up Shakespeare on the Overground, have acted and filmed a comedy sketch show, have even written a song about a squirrel in Mayow Park.

On Monday 12th December the final session takes place for this year and we would love to have the public - you amazing folk - turn up and have some popcorn and see the finished products. The event is FREE OF CHARGE. 17 Sydenham Road, SE26 5EX. 6pm-7.30pm.

The main aim is to have a public fund which our small member organisations can access to provide for fun and educational youth activities, buffering the deep cuts and making sure there is always something free or cheap to do in Sydenham, Forest Hill and Perry Vale.

The great thing about our vision is that local money gets reinvested locally. Givers can see on our website how the donations will be distributed or simply walk by and have a look at what's going on. Once the fund becomes more established, we want to give back to those giving. We would not only like to see thanks sent, updates emailed, and with time and resources even car washes or gardening services. The fund has huge potential for the area.

Can you pass it on?

What are you and your family up to this evening? I want to invite you along to see the short films made by young people to help raise money for the Sydenham and Forest Hill Youth Forum's emerging public fund. The Forum want local people to donate £2 a month or what they can to help support youth projects suffering funding cuts. So far we have £37pcm coming in. We hope to make that £300 by March 2012 and launch a public fund for community organisations to access to help youth and community projects in the local area.

They have made a mini album and a comedy sketch show, which will be screen at 6pm this evening (MONDAY 12th December) at Here For Good, 17 Sydenham Road, SE26 5EX
