He is responding to calls for a show of community support following the outbreaks of violence and looting, with offers and suggestions, and gives his own suggestions - basically a list of what Lewisham is doing already in the way of community engagement. Most of it is good stuff, although the suggestion that we should join a park user group amuses me, since I am told my presence at Friends of Mayow Park meetings would be 'inappropriate'

I would be more interested to know the suggestions he has been receiving. In the longer run, I'd also be interested to know how successful they think the various things they are currently doing are, and how well Lewisham compares with other London boroughs. Essentially the same question I was asking more generally about LB Lewisham in this posting. Since Lewisham was able to point to a green flag for community engagement from the Audit Commission, should this not mean Lewisham had fewer problems than other comparable London Boroughs? My guess would be we did no better or worse than would have been expected without any of the distinctive Lewisham approaches to community engagement over the last ten years. Which is why new ideas would be of more interest.
