Hi Peeps,
According to the Lewisham Council website, a decision from Tfl as to the £3.6 million investment needed for the Sydenham High Street regeneration scheme was due in the spring.

Congratulations to all involved in this successful pursuit of local investment. Sounds like a lot of dedication and people-power was behind the result and must say it's good to see democracy alive and kicking in The Nam.
Also good to know so many of you are "active" because there's a new proposal in the offing for a 2nd multiplex build on the hilltop of CPP that will have a profound and hugely negative affect on the park and surrounding environs.
Multiplex2 is much, much, bigger than the first and the team behind it intend to turn the area into a "global attraction" because they believe that will benefit traders on the Triangle (nothing to back up this claim whatsoever yet they peddle it, furiously) . They propose to build mixed use shopping malls(think the Glades on steroids), hotel(250 rooms) & leisure dome (funfair, ski slopes, skating) with 1,000 space car park. They call it the people's palace yet it's not, it's a shopping, hotel and play centre.
This Monsterplex is intended to attract millions of visitors a year (the ski slope alone could pull in 3M) that's hundreds of thousands of extra vehicles on all feeder routes each and every weekend. These feeder routes, Sydenham High Street, Crystal Palace Road, College Road, Anerley Hill and Church Road are already chronically congested single carriageways and it is unclear how they are going to absorb the predicted influx of Monsterplex patrons nor has this "team" considered the environmental harm the increase in traffic will have on surrounding towns and residents.

The ski slope is a nonsense and I doubt the complex will ever be built, but I reckon the plans are OK in theory. The devil would be in the detail, final appearance, transport arrangements etc, but I think it's time the park was made to pay it's way more. It was originally planned as a massive entertainment complex, so why not restore it to that purpose. After all, how much space do we actually need for dog walking and frisbee throwing.
As for access, it's on the ELL now.

I think the entire proposal is a nonsense and I don't see anything OK about the theory behind the plans. For example can you see the multiplex retail and restaurant businesses, who will be paying a hefty rent for their salubrious locations, telling customers that there are more shops and restaurants on the Triangle? I think not. These sort of edge of town developments are designed to keep shoppers under one roof and are notorious for the damage they inflict on High Street economies. The income that this development is supposed to generate for the park will only be released after the investors reach a certain annual profit margin, what happens when this margin is not met?
It is naive to expect that the opening of the ELL line will result in a significant reduction of car use for this proposal as it targets people from a very wide catchment zone, global if you believe the hype, not just those living along the ELL route. Also if your intention is to empty your wallet in the retail section you'd be more inclined to take your car than lug your booty home on public transport. The 1,000 space car-park says it all.
Sydenham High Street will be one of the main feeder routes to this multiplex and it will have to absorb thousands of extra car journeys if this were to get through planning. It would be prudent to be vigilant as opposed to dismissive.
CPP is not just a dog walker's domain, far from it. Every weekend from April to September it hosts a variety of events the money raised from these events is channelled back into the park. Last weekend it was the vintage car racing, weekend before was the mini rally, weekend before was a race for life event and there's a schedule of local, regional, national and international events ahead, not to mention the sporting fixtures hosted by the NSC. Apart from hosting events how else do parks pay their way? Charge entry or sell off large parts for developments? Would this be acceptable for Mayow Park, Sydenham Wells or Dulwich Park?
