There's a new application to develop the former blinds shop on the High St lodged with the council. Ref. DC/09/72662/X
It doesn't look too bad, other than a dubious 'meadow' at the back. It's high time that site was sorted out. Anyone else got any thoughts?

Hmm, having seen the plans I can't help thinking it's a real shame the blind factory wasn't converted to be a restaurant or even an indoor market. It's HUGE inside. Surely someone could have done something with the existing building (this is where I am sure someome is going to tell me why this isn't possible or tell me to stop moaning!) 
The plans look rather mundane and boring unfortunately. It all depends on the materials used and the finish.
It's not exactly exciting architecture: Loads of flats and some retail space in a building that mimics the building around it without having the same architectural attention to detail. I'd prefer something modern to contrast with the surrounding buildings rather than a piece of apologetic 'I'm a bit like you' architecture.
It's good that someone is willing to invest in the high street. I just wish it was more exciting.
