Boundary Commission proposals

Post by syd-gal »

Have a look at the Boundary Commission proposals -
www.bce2018.org.uk

For Sydenham, the proposed constituency is Dulwich and Sydenham. Surely that has to be better than to be tied in with Catford and Lewisham?!

Really? Do people check the parliamentary constituency before buying? I didn't. Anybody?

The downside is because Dulwich is bigger the MP will be devoting more of their time dealing with Southwark rather than Lewisham to Sydenham's disadvantage.

So Rod - you think it a good thing that the pecuniary interests of the landed gentry should take precedence over the aspirations of the young by keeping them priced out of Sydenham?

Good on yer Rod. But doesn't sharing Sydenham obsessed with money & status obsessed people rather devalue it

Seriously if we are trying to get constituencies of equal size and with some community connection perhaps they should consider redrawing the borough boundaries to match? Sydenham to join the little bit of Upper Sydenham already in Southwark?

Thanks Rod for that - and as every upmarket Estate Agent knows I already live in Dulwich Borders. That must make me almost South Peckham. On the 197 I can be there in seconds. Well - around 2,000 of them. So stick that up your 4x4!

I just thought it might benefit Sydenham to be "linked" with Dulwich rather than Lewisham and that it would be a good thing, in that it might help improve Sydenham a little.... though I don't know how!

I was talking to someone from Dulwich who was horrified they might have to share a constituency name with Sydenham.

Incidentally, there was a private member's bill read in the House on Tues (I think) wanting to keep 650 MPs. A lot of weirdness comes about due to proposed new boundaries right across the country, so it's hard to see how the cut to 600 with such new boundaries would ever pass a vote. In my view, it shouldn't anyway whilst there are 820-ish unelected Lords.
