Just to say Sydenham Town has gone public on our VOIP contact number 020 7043 6866.
You can call us on 020 7043 6866 (office hours) from any phone in the normal way and cost. However, if you are a VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) subscriber and your provider uses the open SIP system - then you should be able to call us free (and v.v.).
Not a VOIP user yet?
If you have broadband you can have it for FREE with FREE calls. This is the internet after all! We use Sipgate (http://www.sipgate.co.uk/) which will give you a free 020 number (or any other UK code). You can download a FREE softphone to your PC and start calling other VOIP users for FREE, adding another number for, say, business calls - or use it as an outgoing phone for around half the price of BT calls.
The free softphone is fine for calling a friend or relative overseas (free if you get them a SIP account) but personally I find PC mikes & speakers unusable in a business environment. Instead we us a hardware adapter that plug straight into the broadband router allowing you to use your ordinary telephone handsets (even wireless DECT) so you can wander around the home or office.
Dixons have just launched a package FreeTalk http://www.freetalk.co.uk providing hardware and a years free calls to do similar. I don't know how good the Dixon's offering is ... is there any body out there using it?
If anybody wants to share knowledge or know more either post or PM me.
