Blank video cassettes?
Blank video cassettes?
I was just wondering whether anyone had spotted any blank video cassettes on sale in Sydenham, perhaps in one of those "household goods" shops? Otherwise I shall have to make a trip to Croydon.

It is a relic of the days before PVR's, when TV programmes could be recorded on removable media. PVR's in their turn are relics of the days before multiple channels, repeats, +1 channels and Internet catch-up sites made it unnecessary ever to record anything yourselfbensonby wrote:What's a video cassette?!

I was joking of course: but I did laugh some years ago when I got out one of my father's LPs and my younger sister, who must have been about 11 at the time, said "what's that" having absolutely no idea what it was or how to use it.

Except that none of these apply in this case, hence the need for a replacement video cassette (DVDs only do 4 hours of bearable quality). I have loads of old cassettes, but stupidly left them all in storage, and now need one, hence my original query.chrisj1948 wrote:PVR's in their turn are relics of the days before multiple channels, repeats, +1 channels and Internet catch-up sites made it unnecessary ever to record anything yourself
Guess a trip to Croydon is necessary ...
Re: Blank video cassettes?
You could probably buy them online. But a word of caution. Video tape does degrade. If you'd had your tapes in storage for a number of years, you should brace yourself that they may be damaged.
I'd urge anyone with old betamax or vhs tapes to get them transferred sooner rather than later.
I hope they're all ok for you please let us know.

I have 2 unused Maxell 240 tapes which you're welcome to if you still need one. I'm off Kirkdale, near Cobbs corner.

You'll probably need some head cleaner too if your VCR has been sitting dormant for some while. We never
had that problem back in the days of 'Cine 8' or 'Super 8'..
Just as an aside: Does anyone remember those Cine cameras that you had to wind up? (I am be serious!)
They didn't even need batteries not like modern tech things where almost everything uses batteries..

Hi. A bit late, but If you mean VHS ones, I have at least three Maxell 3-hr ones that you could overwite (assuming not decayed). I'm near Syd station.
