Hi,

Just moved to Sydenham, can anyone recommend a decent fruit and veg shop?

Welcome to Sydenham!

Fresh & Fruity on Sydenham Road (or 'the high street' as most locals call it) is a decent greengrocer. Very handily it's only a few doors down from Billings, a very good butcher and fishmonger, close to the Sydenham Road/Newlands Park junction.

PFC on Sydenham Road, close to the post office, also has a reasonable range of fruit and veg.

Several other shops on the high street sell a range of fruit and veg, usually from displays on the footpath.

<- what biscuitman1978 said. All the local shops are friendly. As fresh veg can be variable, it's worth seeing "what's good today" in any given shop and buying accordingly. Grocery shops with footpath displays are open later, whilst PFC is 24/7 and tends to have a wider selection of things beyond spuds carrots and toms, e.g. lemon grass, oyster mushrooms etc.

Lower down Sydenham Road is Lidl who can (or not) be excellent (but are usually cheap) - as I said, with fresh veg it rather depends what's there on the day. Access to Lidl is available from the free Girton Road car park incidentally.

All the local shops will often sell a single item quite happily - especially useful if it's a fruit/veg not tried before :)

Lower down the road further, near the Library, there used to be a well kept MFC that was good for veg as well as its other goods. Not sure if it's still there though - perhaps another might know...
