I went along to the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Kirche fearing something very dry, German and academic. The programme was all J S Bach, and I wasn't exactly reassured. But before long I realised we were being offered a wonderfully imaginative musical biography of the man, with spoken excerpts telling the story, and collections of short pieces - chorales, cantatas - arranged for wind quarter + soprano.
These guys not only know how to play, but how to present classical music to the modern world. It was an honour for the Sydenham Arts Festival to have have included them. And they were pleased to be part of it too, since the publicity helped attract a good, appreciative audience.
