Hi,
I'm doing some family research and I have found that my GGGrandmother spent some time at the The Tor, Silverdale in 1901. It was a British Women's Temperance Association Home, catering for paying 'guests', who needed assistance overcoming habits of Intemperance. The Betty Ford Clinic of it' day I guess. What I know about the Home is that it was opened in 1886, took in 24 women and was managed by a ladies' committee, of which Lady Elizabeth Biddulph was president. The fee varied from 31s to 5s a week depending on social status and treatment. Does anyone have any more information about the Home? Is the building still standing?
Mike
