Brick wall of a solicitor

Post by marymck »

I'm not sure if this is the right section to post this in, but I'm hoping someone can offer me some advice re. tracing my historic house Deeds.

As those of you who have read my Land Registry Rant will know, the Deeds to my house have vanished.

The conveyancers who acted for me during my house purchase have gone out of business. The conveyancer herself is now working for another firm of solicitors in Stratford upon Avon and will not return calls or answer letters.

The solicitors who acted for the people we bought the house from are Ewings & Co of Penge. I telephoned them today to ask if they had any record as to whether the "real" Deeds had ever passed through their hands. I met a complete brick wall. They won't even acknowledge whether or not the have a file, or have ever had a file, relating to our property as this would "breach client confidentiality".

Does anyone have an legal knowledge as to whether this is the case? The Law Society have been no help.

Where do I go from here?
