I remember when this happened it was a Saturday afternoon, just like any other.

I saw a large number of men/boys none in football atire walking along Venner Road towards Sydenham. Even though i was in the comfort of my home, i felt very uncomfortable.

Later my husband saw a crowd of men being guarded by police by Penge East Station.

How frightend must those rail passengers have been.

football thugs

Jules, I saw the same crowd, and had been meaning to let the police know but kept forgetting to get the number from the station poster and I wasn't 100% sure if it was the same day. I assumed they had walked up from Penge. I felt very intimated too. I thought they might be national front.

There are a load of interesting comments on the sentences here:

Surprising to me was some feeling that these thugs were being done hard by. Here is a typical comment:

"My stepdad works with one of these guys who got 2 1/2 yrs. I think it is disgusting, considering people get less time for rape and killing someone by dangerous driving!
This wasnt an assault on random people, it was organised. And whilst I dont really get the whole footy hooligan thing and dont condone it, these guys were grown men who organised to meet up and do whatever so its not like they just went around beating up random innocent people!
I was so shocked when I heard his sentence, its not right when other people do far worse and get less time. And he is a good guy with no revious convictions who has worked hard from a young age and doesnt sponge off the government. I hope he gets his sentence slashed because it is just ridiculous!"
