Looking for details for the Attree family

Post by history gal »

:D Hi,

My family roots stem from Beckenham. The most prominent person was my great great Grandfather, Arthur Attree and his wife Mary. They lived in the once named "Arthur Road" and later renamed Churchfields Road. When Mary died in 1898 Arthur married Addie Adela Buss at the Parish Church in 1899. In both marriages there were many offspring. Arthur Attree was a policeman and later worked as a publican at the Prince Arthur Hotel. He died in 1926 in Cottingham Road, Penge. Do you know if anyone has any accounts or information about my ancestry? I know that there were Attree's who continued to live in the Sydenham, Penge, Beckenham and Edmonton areas. Many thanks and kindest regards.

There appear to be two families with the surname Attree in this area. One, mainly shopkeepers, lived in Wastdale Road between about 1891-1911. The other family of that name was headed by Thomas Attree, a solicitor who lived at 51 Westwood Hill about 1881-1898. Thomas' daughter Agnes was still in the area in 1911. Also, Frank Attree is mentioned on the St Bart's war memorial, but I've no idea which family he was from.
