Penge East station incident

Post by oliverreporter »

I am a student journalist at a news agency in Wimbledon and I'm looking into the incident at Penge East station where some youths threw gas into a train.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7041575.stm

The attack happened in July but CCTV pictures have only now been released.

I was wondering if anyone had any views on the delay? Do you think there is a particular crime problem around Penge and do you think it would help if the police were more active in issuing public appeals?

Please send me a message with any comments.

Many thanks for your help

There has always been a crime problem in Penge since the late 1970's when Bromley council decided to turn it into a ghetto for all the boroughs rubbish and problem tenants. Its the reason I left in 1988, I had a shop there which lost a £1000 worth of plate glass window twice in three days;
Penge police were an absolute joke and useless to the point of criminality, I`ve seen them drinking in the Alexandra pub after hours while the nicked gear from the building site behind was being wheelbarrowed into the back of the pub.
I worked for the Met police for years and Penge nick was always a joke, I think it was where those officers who had blotted their copybook were sent for a punishment.
Don't get me started on the subject, I can`t help geting into a rant,its a running sore even 25 years later. :x :(
Penge was like a little village once, tatty,a bit knocked about in the war, but a pleasent enough place to live, you could still meet folk who had a real Penge accent, blooming war zone when I left.
